Assistant professor Maryam Tilton has been selected for the 2026 Butler-Williams Scholars Program sponsored by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The Butler-Williams Scholars Program is a competitive NIH/NIA program for early-stage investigators in aging research. For Tilton, this is a valuable opportunity to engage with NIA program leadership, program officers, and scientists, learn more about NIA’s mission and long-term scientific priorities, and build relationships within the national aging research community. This aligns closely with her lab’s work on skeletal aging mechanobiology and developing therapeutic strategies that target the underlying mechanisms of age- and senescence-associated tissue dysfunction and functional decline. The program will help to further develop this aging-focused research direction and strengthen the foundation for future NIH/NIA proposals.
