Three staff members in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mary Cantu-Garcia, Jessica Dai, and Katherine Spiering, have been honored with Cockrell School of Engineering awards for their exemplary service to UT Austin.
Mary Cantu-Garcia, the Student Program Coordinator for the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been selected for the inaugural Student-Facing Staff Award for Contributions to Equity in Engineering. Mary joined the department in February 2022 and in her sure time here has made meaningful contributions to make the Cockrell School and the university a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive place.
Jessica Dai, the Travel & Entertainment Payment Associate in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been selected for the 2023 Cockerell School of Engineering Staff Excellence Award. Jessica has been at UT Austin for over six years and has become an invaluable part of the department's financial team. She is also currently pursuing a Master's in Professional Accounting from UT Austin.
Katherine Spiering, Communications Coordinator for the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been selected for the 2023 Cockerell School of Engineering Staff Excellence Award. Katherine has been at UT Austin for two years and has become a highly valued member of the team. She also received the ME Staff Excellence Award in December 2022.
