Duke Science and Technology Faculty Search

Duke University is seeking early-career faculty applicants (targeting assistant or associate professor positions) in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, as well as other science and technology related disciplines.

We have multiple faculty positions available through the support of the Duke Science and Technology signature initiative, which seeks to hire young faculty in STEM fields. We are sending this email to you in hopes that you will encourage your senior PhD students and/or postdocs to apply to these positions; additionally, please pass this opportunity on to any early career colleagues that you think may be interested.

Key areas of broad interest for the hiring initiative include materials science (e.g., materials for energy and sustainability, metamaterials, biomaterials, and interface with machine learning and artificial intelligence), computing (e.g., artificial intelligence and machine learning, quantum computing, autonomous systems, internet of things, and cyber security/privacy), and resilience (e.g., understanding/controlling how biological systems adapt to stress and trauma). We are particularly focused on candidates involved with multidisciplinary research (possibly connecting among multiple departments). More information about the Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science department (https://mems.duke.edu) and Materials Initiative (https://dmi.duke.edu) at Duke can be found at the listed links.

One hallmark of our culture at Duke is a high level of collaborative, multidisciplinary research, and we seek individuals who would be great collaborators. We are also a vibrant community with an emphasis on diverse representation among our students, staff, and faculty. We particularly encourage women and underrepresented minority applicants to apply for these faculty positions.

Thank you for taking the time to consider our request, and please forward this email to colleagues who might be interested in these positions (the full search announcement with application instructions is at https://research.duke.edu/dst-faculty-search). Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and timely submission is encouraged.
