Undergraduate Advising
The Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering advising team helps current students navigate their degree plans and the transition into college life. New students should visit the undergraduate office in the department of their major, meet the staff associated with the office and get acquainted with the procedures. The advising team is offering virtual advising (Zoom) and in-person advising at ETC 2.146.
New Students
Incoming undergraduate students will attend advising and course registration during New Student Orientation. Please be sure to register for UT Orientation after accepting your offer of admission. Also, make sure you have a laptop computer that meets our minimum hardware requirements.
Current Students
Drop-In Advising (In-Person or Zoom)
Drop-in advising can be accessed via a virtual drop-in kiosk on Navigate by selecting “Check-In for Drop-In Advising.” For instructions on how to use Navigate to check in for virtual drop-ins, please refer to this step-by-step PDF.

Engineering Student Services (ESS)
In addition to academic advising support from the department, students can also receive support from the Cockrell School’s Engineering Student Services (ESS) team. ESS provides assistance with Q-drops, withdrawing, transfers, academic support services, honors programs, and more.
Tutoring
Both free tutoring and paid private tutoring are available on campus. Free departmental tutoring options are available, as well as group or private options through the Sanger Learning and Career Center.
Undergraduate students are also eligible for 2 hours of free tutoring per week through the Cockrell School of Engineering’s EOE Tutoring Program.
Study Abroad
If you are interested in studying abroad for a short-term program (maymester) or semester-exchange program (fall and/or spring terms) can find more information through the Tillerson Engineering Global Leaders Center (TGEL). It is recommended that your semester abroad aligns with the courses you were planning to take at UT to ensure that your time abroad does not delay your graduation.
