Faculty opening in Multiscale Characterization and Modelling of Materials - University of Waterloo

The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo, invites applications from exceptional scholars and researchers for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with research interest in Multiscale Characterization and Modelling of Materials with an anticipated start date in January 2022.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline. Ideal candidates should have a demonstrated research strength in Multiscale Experimental Analyses and Constitutive Model Development to Investigate Microstructure-Process-Performance Relationship. Applicants with active research on performing multiscale experiments to calibrate/validate numerical models of the constitutive and fracture behaviour of light metals and ultra-high strength steels will be preferred. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in collaborative research with the automotive industry. It is expected that the applicant will work closely with our NSERC/GM Industrial Research Chair in “Integrated Computational Mechanics for Mass Efficient Automotive Structures" as well as develop an independent complementary research program. Duties will include developing and maintaining an active and internationally recognized research program, supervision of graduate and undergraduate students, and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The salary range for this position at the rank of Assistant Professor is $100,000 to $150,000 CAD. Applications will be accepted until July 31, 2021. The successful applicant is expected to have an engineering license for practice in Canada, or to apply for a Canadian engineering license within the first year of joining the university, and must be registered as a Professional Engineer within 5 years from the start of their appointment.
