Engineering Education research focuses on understanding how best to recruit, retain and prepare a diverse engineering workforce. This includes how people learn engineering content and how to best teach engineering; what interests and motivates students to pursue engineering and how do we support their persistence in engineering majors and careers.
The Engineering Education research area in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering is vast, as are the goals we pursue, including: development and delivery a high school engineering curriculum; promotion of identity and persistence of engineering students from high school through graduate school; support of Latino transfer students; discovering how engineering instructors make decisions about their teaching; and expanding graduate education, with plans for future faculty programs.
